Your new puppy will arrive to you in a Pet Carrier. There will be a piece of carpet inside
that the puppy can sit or lay on. Underneath this piece of carpet will be your paperwork,
such as shot record, AKC papers, dog food information etc. inside a ziplock bag. Your
puppy is up to date on all vaccinations but you will need to finish the series that is required
for him to be fully immune to any of these diseases. Try not to take the puppy to a place
that other animals have been and put him down. The dog food and nutri-cal will be taped to
the top of the carrier. The airlines will feed them only if there is a delay in flight. I will give
them nutri-cal right before take off so their blood sugar will not get low, you will need to
give your puppy nutri-cal as soon as you pick the puppy up, again, it is taped to the top of
the carrier. I require that you call me the minute you have the puppy in your arms. I also
like to know that the airlines have done their jobs by keeping them safe for us.
Your new puppy should be in a confined area when you are not watching it very carefully.
It will not know about danger since it has been protected so very carefully here. I
recommend a human baby play pen at first, put a puppy pee pad in one corner and the
food, bed and toys in the other corners. In the cold months you can put a clip on light with
a 75 watt bulb clipped to the playpen. (These clip on lights can be purchased at Wal-Mart)
The puppy needs to be warmer than you are for a little while. The puppy will be able to
move away from the warmth if it is too warm. When your puppy is not in the play pen you
will need to watch very carefully not to step on it. Puppies love to be right under your feet,
you will need to learn to walk with a shuffle to ensure not hurting it. Do not leave your
puppy sitting on anything that it can not get down by itself. Falling off of a chair can kill
your new puppy. Do not let children hold the puppy standing up. Puppies are very wiggly
and can be dropped. A fall from a standing person can kill your new puppy.
Your new puppy needs to eat and this is very important. The Eukanuba Small Breed
Puppy dry food and water needs to be available to your puppy at all times. Puppies eat a
little bit all day long. Do Not change your puppy's food, it can cause diarrhea and possibly
worse. If your new puppy will not eat, please do not hesitate to call me at home,
940-538-6824, or email me at yorkieluv@sbcglobal.net You can give nutri-cal to your
puppy every day as a treat or reward for doing something good, it will also keep the puppy's
blood sugar up. You can not overdose your puppy but it can cause diarrhea if given too
much.
Try not to over handle your new puppy. I know it is tempting to hold and play with this
absolutely adorable creature but let the puppy rest as much as needed. This is important.
You are going to do a great job, I just know it!
God Bless you and your new life with this precious baby!
